what’s in a name

April 14, 2009

The first time i heard about the “special” underlying meaning of my chinese name was last year. The commentor was a psychic so i took her words seriously. Playing on the intonations, she thought my name means “a different spirit”.

Last night i chanced upon the meaning of my english name. when spelt in a slightly different way — Yileen — it means “dream” in aboriginal origin.

i have intuitively like the name, Ash, and has been calling myself thus. Synchronically, among the list of babynames on the net, I discovered that the name — Ashling — means “dream” or “vision” in Irish.

in Irish literature, a poetic or dramatic description or representation of a vision… The word is of Irish origin and means “a vision” or a “description of a vision.” ________from  http://www.britannica.com
